Electrolytic manganese is produced by leaching manganese ore with acid, and its purity is typically 99.7%. Externally, it looks like iron, it is irregularly shaped flakes, hard and transparent, one side is light, the other is rough, from silvery-white to brown, silvery-gray color after processing into powder. It oxidizes easily in air, dissolves and displaces hydrogen in the presence of dilute acid, dissolves water, and releases hydrogen at a temperature slightly above room temperature.
